Police Surveillance Cameras in Seattle Parks
Seattle City Council Bill Number 116188 authorizes the installation of police surveillance cameras in city parks. These cameras would mean the government is recording the activities of law-abiding people in the parks, including attendance at political rallies and Pride events, and simply associating with friends. Please write the City Council and let them know that this resolution should not be passed.

Close Guantánamo in 120 Days
Ask your senators to co-sponsor a bill to close the Guantánamo Bay prison within 120 days of enactment and to end the practice of indefinite detention without charge for hundreds of detainees, among other steps to restore the Constitution.

Stop Sentencing Discrimination
Current federal sentencing law punishes crack cocaine offenders more severely than any other drug offenders for possession. Possessing or dealing five grams of crack cocaine results in the same five-year minimum sentence as 500 grams of powder.

Ballot Initiatives
Death with Dignity
It's My Decision, a Washington group that advocates the right of terminally ill patients to end their lives with dignity, is pursuing a ballot initiative to give these patients access to life-ending medicines. The initiative would give mentally competent, terminally ill adults with six months or less to live legal access to life-ending medicines. Physicians will not administer these medicines, but will be allowed to prescribe them and to counsel patients who seek them. The ACLU is supporting their effort to place an initiative on the fall 2008 ballot.
